incense Fragrant smoke used in conjunction with worship; our prayers rise to God like the rising smoke.
instituted Put into place for a specific purpose.
Introit. The Latin for “enter”; psalm verses sung or spoken at the beginning of the Divine Service.
Invocation. From the Latin for “call upon”; the words “In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” spoken at the beginning of the service; serves as a reminder of Holy Baptism.
