The ruminations of a Lutheran cleric on liturgy and the Divine Service, Lutheran culture, sermons, devotional writing, tidbits from some of the projects I am working on. Above all else, Blog My Soul is a very personal endeavor, so 'professional' pieces will appear along side pictures of the grandchildren, commentary, and eclectic bits of life lived out as a child of God praying "Come, Lord Jesus."

The Concordia Theological Seminary community invites you to listen to the Morning Office held daily at 10:00 a.m., Monday through Friday. The audio from the Chapel service is posted daily, and is typically available by 1:00 p.m. (Eastern).

/ September 8, 2010Peter,
Holy Cross Ember days are the Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday after Holy Cross Day: September 15, 17, and 18, 2010.

/ September 9, 2010Yes, you are correct that there are some understandable variations in this practice among those who care about Ember Days. The days of the week for embertides don't change but the holy/saint days to which they are linked certainly do. Some will, for some consistency-sake, say, "always the week after." I side with those who don't delay and simply say the tide follows as closely as possible after the day.
Thanks for reading.
